Washed*

Good morning! I know I look goofy...I was laughing at the thought of posting this.

I wanted to share a pic I snagged on Sunday night. I had just washed my hair and wrapped it up in a towel. Isn't shrinkage magical? I'm not being sarcastic...it really is a magical wonder!

Shrinkage is basically what our curls do when wet. They curl up, really small. If it's wet and I do nothing to it and just let it dry like that, it hugs my scalp in a fro. Some women really dislike shrinkage, because they want to show the length of their hair. Nothing wrong with that. But I think it just shows how cool we are...one day we can rock it short-short, in an afro. The next day we can rock it big and blown out.

Oh and that paper on the wall is a quote to keep me on track. It says, "If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." I believe it's by Henry David Thoreau.

Bye for now! I have a really great story to tell my next post. I am going out of the country on Saturday, so I hope to post at least once more before then.

Hugs.

Thanksgiving...ugh?*

Okay, so tomorrow is Thanksgiving. And I'm cranky!

I know I'm supposed to be thankfull and all that, but oh, the holidays really stress and depress me. Or, at least, that's how I feel.

People are rushing around, getting into accidents, to get all the last minute fixin's for the feast. Are we supposed to be rushing, and being stressed?

So tomorrow, I am going to force myself to sit down and write a list of all that I'm thankful for. I'm really going to give it some thought. So that I can "see" and remember the abundance that surrounds me. Because I guess I can forget and take folks/things/privileges for granted.

I suppose I'm cranky because I'm focusing on the wrong things. And based on the Law of Attraction, if I'm focused on the wrong things, all I'm going to continue to see/attract are more wrong things/people/situations. Oooo, gotta change my energy/vibration really quick so I can feel better.

Back to the hair at hand. :) I'm looking for more pics to post...stay tuned.

And have a happy "Thankful" day tomorrow!

A little about me*

Hiya.

I have been natural now since 1999.

I had locs for 5 years. I cut my locs off in 2005 and have had loose natural hair ever since.

The picture above was taken in June, 2007. I wanted to take a pic of my hair, and color combo that day. I made the jewelry. Likey? :)
My goal for this blog is to have fun, learn more about natural hair care, encourage women to love and play with their natural hair, and more.
I hope you visit often. Feel free to leave happy, good energy feeling comments.
Oh, and a disclaimer here. A lot of my pics are taken in my bathroom. My bathroom walls are a bit splattered with conditioner, mayo, oil, and all sorts of natural hair concoctions. So don't mind the walls, okay? Thanks.

In the beginning*

Imagine before you were born, that you could pick the body that you would live in this lifetime. You could pick the color of your skin, the color of your eyes, size of your lips, hips, everything! And at the time, you could even pick your hair.

Do I have your attention?

Good. Now, imagine that while you're picking all these things, you are with God, and the two of you are looking at your choices, and you see that wow, you picked some good stuff!

In the hair department, you could choose, straight, straighter than straight, wavy, curly, kinky, coily, or some awesome combination. (And in that mystical place standing next to God, no one kind of hair is better than the other; they are all incredibly beautiful.)

And so, in all your infinite wisdom at the time, you chose to go with a curly, kinky, coily combo. God smiled. And so did you! Because you knew that this hair was beautiful. You knew that it was precious. You knew it was magical.

Fast forward to your 4th birthday on this earth. You have the cutest curls, coils and kinks, a magical mass o' hair. But no one can see its beauty. And no one knows what to do with it!

Here on earth, people have chosen some silly, ugly words for your type of hair: nappy. hard. coarse. frizzy. picky. knotty. Your hair becomes linked to hurtful phrases: hard to manage. difficult to comb. hair that doesn't grow. You watch your mom and her sisters and friends, and none of them like their natural hair. They all forgot that they really do have magical hair.

Sadly, you learned to hate the hair that even God knows is magical.

But not any more! This blog has been created to celebrate your natural hair.

And what gives me the credentials to start a blog on natural hair? I'm magical. And so is my hair. And you're magical. And so is YOUR hair. Dude, we're a magical two-some, you and I. So read on. Let's play with our magical locks, together. :)
